sugarplumfairy
I'm trying to pick a math program besides Saxon and I think I need pre-Algebra this year. My 17yo is way behind and did Saxon pre-algebra last year (half of it) and then started on Aleks, but I'm not sure he is still getting it too well. I have a 14yo and 12yo that I would like to start in Algebra, but I think they both would need pre-algebra first since they haven't done that yet. I want to to the Foerester math with the Home Study Companion DVD's that I found, but do I need to have them do a pre-algebra course first? I was thinking of doing the Teaching Textbooks one unless someone has a better suggestion. I haven't seen or used any of these other than the sample lessons and videos that I've looked at online. Retired
this is a community college textbook it teaches everything from addition to basic statistic. This is the all in one pre-algebra. I have used it with a 7th grader for pre algebra and a 14 yo who needed remedial work. This is a great math text. I purchased my set used for about $30.00 that included the student worktest, solution manual, and DVTS. I highly recommend the text, it would work well with all your students

Kareni
Yet another vote for Lial's Basic College Math. (Used copies can be had from many online book sellers. If your library doesn't have a copy, see if you can get one through inter-library loan to see what it's like.) Regards, Kareni
sugarplumfairy
I do have it at the library, I've put it on hold. So we see how that goes and maybe I can find a cheap used set also, but in the meantime at least there's the library book.. My sister in law and I have been discussing all this for the last few weeks. Can't wait to share with her!
