historybuffmom
Anyone know of British history curriculum to go with the British Lit class I'm teaching my son this fall? Ideally literature based but even a textbook would be helpful that I can use to hang historical fiction on. All I'm finding is European with British thrown in. TerriMI
...History of the English Speaking Peoples? It is a four volume set, but the chapters are fairly short. His writing is engaging too, though I wouldn't call it really easy reading. He uses long sentence structures and sometimes digs up some hefty vocabulary, but I think it is truly doable for HS age students. The last volume is about the US, so you could leave that out. Here is the wikipedia article about the set. Try getting it used. I believe I got mine years ago at alibris.com. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_History_of_the_English_Speaking_Peoples TerriKY
Laura Corin
Rebecca Fraser's history is good, and readable (high school level). Simon Schama's is good too, but denser and running to three volumes. I highly recommend the Simon Schama History of Britain BBC series on DVD. Laura

Written in a narrative style, it is both engaging *and* informative. :001_smile:
