kesmom
Would you choose a set that is all the same color or a different color for each unit?
Heathermomster
My set is all the same color; however, different colored units could be helpful when explaining carries and borrows. As long as the individual units are the same color, I don't see any harm.
Spy Car
I would advocate for not getting a base-10 set, and instead getting a Cuisenaire Rod set and a set of base-10 "flats" (to serve as 100 values). Bill

kesmom
Thanks! I was looking at 2 very similarly priced sets on RR (cheap) and trying to decide which was preferable. We have cuisinare rods but they aren't our favorite.
Spy Car
We have cuisinare rods but they aren't our favorite. With the C Rods you already have Ten Rods (Orange) and 1-9 Unit Rods. All you need are 1-Hundred value base-10 flats. Bill
kesmom
I won't be using the cuisenare rods but thanks for the suggestion.
Dana
I like cuisinare rods, but I am very glad to have a base 10 set. I got the set that's all blue and goes to 1000. Then I bought extra ones and tens in red so we could represent negatives :) I prefer having just the two colors...and the set of algebra tiles I have uses red for negatives, so it keeps things consistent.
