You can usually add memory pretty cheap to a computer, you can't change processing speed easily. I don't know what 'mapping software' is, but for photo software, I was told that you also want a dedicated video card. I would check out the website for the software to see if there is a 'minimum computer requirements' and the make sure you have wayyyyyy above that.
