love2read
None of my children have liked those two despite three of them liking other books that are like those books ;) I didn't care for Ivanhoe, but enjoyed TI as a teen.
happypamama
My kids loved Treasure Island! DH read it to them a while ago, and I think that made the difference; he is good at voices and animating a book, and he stopped as needed to explain things. DS1 was about 5 at the time and requested the full audio version for his next birthday, and he's loved it.
Cinder
My boys liked Treasure Island but not enough that they'd read it again. They were younger (elementary-aged) when we did it as a read-aloud and I think they found it a bit confusing. A couple years later we listened on audiobook and they enjoyed the story more because they understood better what was happening. Their favorite version, though, is Muppet Treasure Island. :tongue_smilie: We haven't read Ivanhoe.
Denise in Florida
My girls loved Treasure Island when my dh did it as a bedtime read aloud. Neither they nor I have read Ivanhoe. I loved reading Treasure Island, Kidnapped and David Balfour when I was a teenager.
