ally
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a phonics program that would be good for my son who we adopted in Dec. He will be 7 yrs old this summer. He is from China. Thanks
Ellie
A friend used Spalding with some Japanese exchange students and said it worked quite well.
Momling
I've used Explode the code with non native English speakers before. The pictures also served as a source for vocabulary too. Starfall and brain pop esl are also good.
Pamela H in Texas
Thanks Momling.... My newest is doing well with letter sounds and such, but it just doesn't seem to be enough. For example, in her reader yesterday was the word "pull." She read it as p-uh-ll. Close. But she doesn't have the experience to let her just make the jump necessary to get to pull. The picture and talking about opposites was no help also as she didn't have an English word in her head for what they were doing with the wagon. Same with "donkey." She didn't have an English word for that animal. Her English in speech actually sounds VERY good. She has a few errors (like she doesn't use the word /of/ EVER), but....But we're struggling with the reading in English (well, she is just a little lower than her Kindy teacher would like so not exactly low or anything, but....).
