Jocelyne
My son has requested some good mystery books that are not series books. Or at least not a series that is long. Maybe 3-4 books. Just not something like Hardy Boys. I think he is discovering that the really great books don't have a bunch in a series that are similar and predicatable. He is 8 and an excellent reader. He likes both easy books and tough books that make him think. Any suggestions?

Jilly
My 8-year-old loves the Johnny Dixon Mysteries. It is a series, but the books are worth a read. :001_smile:
wonderfilled
I stumbled across this thread had to recommend the Brixton Brothers by Mac Barnett. I think there are three books in the series. I saw them on Sonlight's recommended summer reading and we've been getting them from the library and my boys (11, 9, and 7) are loving them.
