Holly IN
We are using Apologia Biology this fall. I am wondering if you used any other supplemental materials outside of Apologia to enhance the study? thanks Holly
FloridaLisa
My ds did biology 3 years ago and I facilitated the labs with a group of 10 students. Here are the thing that I can remember: *classification lesson: I brought bags of assorted legos; nuts, bolts, screws; kitchen items and had the kids sort the bags into classifications. *cell report: each student reported on part of the cell: the nucleus, mitochondria, etc. *3-D cell model: each student made a 3-D cell using clay, jello or whatever medium they chose. Two girls baked a cell cake together and the class ate it. *DVD for the evolution module. We watched "Unlocking the Mystery of Life." *field trip during the environmental module. We went to a new park on the river and identified many of the things we had studied. It seems like I added in something hands-on for most labs. I recall raiding my canned food and fridge to bring in. We determined whether it was a fruit and classified it. I'll link a great website with lots of biology experiments and hands-on activities. Search through the archives in the second site (accessexcellence) for some great activities. http://www.biologycorner.com/ http://www.accessexcellence.org/AE/ATG/data/released/0251-NickHoffman/ HTH, Lisa
