buttercup
Has anyone ever used this for high school? If so what are the pros and cons? How do you assign grades for both lit. and history without the giving of tests in this curriculum? Thanks!
Ellie
These are the credits recommended by the author. Personally, I wouldn't bother giving half a credit for literature, although if you could figure out how many other works to add so that you'd have a whole literature credit, I suppose that would work. Grades would be based on the notebooks that the children keep for each study guide.
buttercup
Couldn't one possibly add a writing program and the 1/2 credit from the lit. along with the writing ( like IEW) could constitute a whole English credit?

Yes, but you'd need to add more works for lit, as well. BFB is only giving *half* of a literature credit, not half of an English credit, see what I mean? So, something for writing plus more literature works plus BFB equals one English credit.
buttercup
Thanks for clarifying that Ellie!! I was looking at the Early American & World History recommended for 7-9th graders. My dd will be in 9th grade next year. About how many more books would need to be added, do you think?
Ellie
Well, this is JMHO, ok? Here are the literature courses from Smarr. You can click on each one to see how many works are studied each year, and compare that to what BFB includes. That should give you a good reference point.:)
