MellowYellow
Can you just use the book and activity guide or do you need to by the Usborne encyclopedia?
ScoutTN
We have one of the Kingfisher reference books, but don't use it very often. (3x since the fall) We use lots of supplemental library books, ones in the SOTW AG and others too. Info books, picture books and chapter books. So, imo, you don't need the reference books, though they certainly could be useful especially with older kids.
boscopup
Not necessary, though my son loved it. I had to tape the spine back together (cheap binding on the regular hardback). My son didn't like it when I read it aloud, but he loved it when reading to himself, and he read the whole thing. If you're getting library books, it's really not a must have though. ErinE
My son just likes reading the encyclopedia on his own, but we just use the SOTW book and activity guide, supplemented with suggested literature. I think when he's older, I'll use the encyclopedia for outline practice.
