heart'sjoy
We're about 3/4 way through ch1 in AOPS prealgebra. I've got Alcumus set to follow textbook- prealgebra. I want dd to add some Alcumus next week for review. Any suggestions on how to implement a schedule for ALcumus. In the past I assigned x number of problems. That doesn't work in AOPS prealgebra book. When and how much of ALcumus should I assign?
Sebastian (a lady)
We're about 3/4 way through ch1 in AOPS prealgebra. I've got Alcumus set to follow textbook- prealgebra. When and how much of ALcumus should I assign? I fluctuate in what I assign. Frequently I tell them they need to spend a certain amount of time. Sometimes I will set the problems to stay on the chapter we're actively doing (that means that it isn't just following the book). Sometimes it's better to have it flit around and follow the book, but assign problems that hit areas that need review. We're mostly doing the Algebra problems, but sometimes it's a prealgebra review that's needed.
heart'sjoy
I saw how I could "focus" a specific chapter segment or a general review. This will be good. I was thinking it might need to be time. How much time would you start with?
East Coast Sue
I'd suggest 20 minutes. My dd does about 20 minutes in Alcumus, 30 mins+ on the textbook or board problems (for the online course), and 10 minutes watching the videos. This seems to work well, but there are times when she is on a roll and really wants to spend a bigger chunk of time on Alcumus.
HappyCamper
My daughter is in the AoPS pre-algebra class, so we are on their schedule. Once she has completed the section in the textbook and watched the videos, she does the corresponding alcumus section. It doesn't work at all if she does alcumus first. She does it in 30-45 increment blurbs; usually with the goal of completing the section rather than doing it for a certain amount of time.
