iPad documents - can I move from laptop?

Recommended Posts

I know that I am not using my iPad to its full potential and I am not an iPad aficionado by any stretch of the imagination. So here's my stupid question for the day: Can I move a document file from my laptop to my iPad so that I can access it at will on my iPad?

I have some Continuing Education documents that I wish to ponder while I'm bored at scouts, etc. The iPad is so much easier to lug around and the battery life is longer :D

These were downloadable files I purchased from a CE website. I can click on the links through my e-mail to download them.

So can I do that? If so, how?

The short answer is yes.

Long answer...

You need an app on your iPad that can read the document. There are many so it depends on the document format.

I think there is a way to transfer PDF files to iBooks and I think you can possibly do this through iTunes but I'm not positive.

Other wise you need to be using the "Cloud" or use an app like Dropbox to transfer or even email.

Here is the answer from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094

There are also now specialized thumb drives to move between iPads and computers. That would be another option.

You can email the link to your ipad and it should give you the option to open in ibooks. If you want to write on the document you can do the same thing and open in something like Notability or PDF Expert.

The previously mentioned dropbox option works as well. First download the free dropbox app on your ipad and it will give you instructions for loading it on the computer.

Thanks, all. I tried Dropbox and several other apps. Finally I e-mailed the creator and discovered that there is nothing that will work :(

So, I guess I get to lug the laptop around :p

Thanks for all your help. I know it will be useful in the future. And now I have some really neat apps to explore :)
