abacus2
Rachael to me regularly during lessons, "I never get anything right." Me, "But you answered these correctly." Rachael, "Those don't count because they are easy and I already knew those answers." So in Rachael's mind today's lessons are big failures and yesterday's lessons are easy now so they don't count. :banghead:
katilac
That's a pointless discussion, and I just refuse to engage. "I never get anything right" is not a statement that requires a response on an ongoing basis. Ignore it and move on. If the child complains about being ignored, offer to discuss it at great length after school, during her free time. Other statements you should feel free to ignore: I'll never get this. This is too hard. Big Brother always finishes first; it isn't fair. I hate (math, spelling, whatever). Acceptable segues include, but are not limited to: Mmm. Duly noted. Be that as it may . . . Silence.
