Norton Anthology cool site

Recommended Posts

I was just browsing for TOG year 1 stuff and ran across this companion site to the Norton Anthology.Cool maps, quizzes, etc. I think they have them for the other ones as well.

A friend found me a copy of the Instructor's Guide to the Noton Introduction to Literature. It has instructor info for the regular & shorter editions as well as the Norton Introduction to Poetry. (What I have is keyed to the 8th edition. 0393977277.)

Each work has 2-4 pages in the instructor guide. There is some background or interpretation info, followed by discussion questions. Works of fiction are grouped by theme (characterization, setting, point of view, etc). There are are also writing suggestions. One interesting feature is that the subsections have some troubleshooting ideas that help you to direct the student on how to craft a good essay topic and what would be a good topic sentence.

I can only speak to the format of the version I have, but since most of works studied are older, I think you could use an older (and less expensive) edition.
