dirty ethel rackham
DD11 just wrote this poem as an assignment for the Music of the Hemispheres. After we brainstormed ideas for words with sounds that tell the story, I gave her 15 minutes to write (or we would be here until June.) We have only covered sounds, not meter. Here is what she came up with: The Music of Cooking Cooking clangs with pots, pans, and glass against the counter. Ingredients whooshing between refrigerator and prep area. The snaps of lids opening, closing. The creak and bank of old cabinet doors. Whisk, beat, scrape to mix together. The beeps of ovens and fiery whoosh of heat. Finally poured into waiting pans to be pushed into heat. Splish, splash, thump of dishes being cleaned, dried and put away for the day. Then, finally, after such time, the oven door opens to reveal a beautiful, chocolate cake.
RegularMom
Wonderful! Such richness in her sounds! I really heard it. Tell her to keep writing. (And I'm a poet, so I know what I'm talking about. :D)
