s/o poll: Big bins or Small containers for Legos?

Which has worked better for you? Dumping everything into one big bin, or organizing Legos into lots of smaller containers? I got answers from both sides of the spectrum in this thread and I'm interested in seeing the how many people are on each side.

I (and my boys)honestly prefer the long, shallow bins you store under the bed because you can find your pieces much more easily than in a deeper bin. My boys do not have the patience to "sort" pieces into various bins.

we spent many hours last summer sorting out all of the boys' legos by size into individual drawers. It didn't last very long and now I just pick up a handful and throw them into the emptiest drawer available. I don't have the energy to re-sort it again. I think a large shallow container that they can sort through works best for us now.

I tried the sorting thing by color and that lasted all but a few minutes....I love the above idea of flat, shallow boxes...that would work great!!!!!

I have Home Depot paint buckets with inserts for nuts and bolts. Smaller legos get catagorized in these. I have another bucket that has no dividers. Large pieces get dumped in there. Well, small pieces get dumped in there, too. We organize them about once a month. The kids like this system because they can find the pieces better. I like this system because before, it was dump them all on the floor to find the pieces.

I used to put down a sheet first and then just pick up the corners and dump to pick up. That helped a lot.
