s/o poll: Big bins or Small containers for Legos?

What size bins do you use for Legos?

  1. 1. What size bins do you use for Legos?

    • A few big bins--organization is futile.
      4
    • Organize everything into lots of small containers --it makes it easier to find what you need.
      3
    • Some combination of the two.
      7
    • None--the floor is good enough for my Legos.

we spent many hours last summer sorting out all of the boys' legos by size into individual drawers. It didn't last very long and now I just pick up a handful and throw them into the emptiest drawer available. I don't have the energy to re-sort it again. I think a large shallow container that they can sort through works best for us now.

I have Home Depot paint buckets with inserts for nuts and bolts. Smaller legos get catagorized in these. I have another bucket that has no dividers. Large pieces get dumped in there. Well, small pieces get dumped in there, too. We organize them about once a month. The kids like this system because they can find the pieces better. I like this system because before, it was dump them all on the floor to find the pieces.

I used to put down a sheet first and then just pick up the corners and dump to pick up. That helped a lot.
