OnTheBrink
Baby blues are normal, but do tell someone if you're feeling down and please tell someone if you're feeling negative thoughts about yourself or the baby, to the degree of possibly hurting yourself or the baby. You're not alone and there is help for these feelings. And, let people help you with the housework, meals, etc for the first few weeks. You have plenty of time to be supermom, you don't need to start out that way. ;) And something that was previously said that I agree with 1000%--Babies don't need 99% of what Babies R Us sells. Food, love, a bed, clothing and healthy, happy parents. The rest is gravy.
mytwomonkeys
i'd probably remind her that childhood happens in stages. babies will learn to sleep through the night. children will potty train. tantrums do end. whining will cease. selfishness is outgrown. no time for yourself is temporary. etc. also, laughter is medicine & finding humor in everyday circumstances is a key component (at least for me) in raising my kids. my favorite quote is, "days with young children are very long but the years are so short". that mantra got me through many days & helps me to recognize my time with my kids is a true blessing (even when it feels like a curse, lol) :)
6packofun
My best advice has now become: Relax. God gave you that kid and you'll figure it out. :chillpill: Seriously. I stressed WAY too much with our first couple of kids and now I see that the best things I've done are the things I figured out on my own, sometimes with dh (lol), for each individual child.
