He was instructed to write half a page about the story of Beowulf: King Hrathgar had a palace with a great hall in it. He let his servants and guards sleep there. But Grendal, a terrible monster, came there every night to eat the men up. Beowolf, with the strength of 30 men, came to kill Grendal. When Grendal came, Beowulf grabed his arm. He pulled Grenadal's arm off and killed him. King Hrathgar gave Beowolf lots of gifts. Then they had a great feast. Now King Hrathgar's men could once more sleep in the great hall. Here is my seven year old's narration. He was asked to write three sentences about the story. I helped him with some of the spelling (like the names, "warrior," and "hours"). Beowulf was a strong warrior. Beowulf killed Grendel with his own hands. Beowulf killed Grendel's mother and stayed under water for hours.
