parias1126
My 7 yr old DS is OBSESSED with Electricity and how it works. Do any of you have boys that are the same? Have you found an amazing book that has just as many pictures (he is very visual) as it does writing? I would love suggestions or Amazon links. Any other ideas or experiment kids would be helpful too.
almondbutterandjelly
Science Wiz Electricity kit comes with a great, colorful, informative book, plus all the fixings for the suggested experiments. Love Science Wiz! I also bought the Max Axiom graphic novel about Electricity, plus some graphic novels about Samuel Morse and Thomas Edison (Capstone Press). They work nicely with that subject. The Magic School Bus Electric field trip book was really interesting, too.
krisperry
We have these which have all been a hit for that age: http://www.amazon.com/Magic-School-Electric-Field-Trip/dp/0590446835/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308182855&sr=1-7 http://www.amazon.com/Faraday-Pioneer-Electricity-Explosion-Zone/dp/0764125923/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308182950&sr=1-2 http://www.amazon.com/Elenco-SC-100-Snap-Circuits-Jr/dp/B00008BFZH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308183001&sr=8-
morosophe
Mine was and still is. Check out Electronic Snap Circuits for some hands on stuff. :iagree:Snap Circuits are the best! My son absolutely loves them. And you can get the starter set for around $20.00 from Amazon.
Farrar
Well... there are *so* many about electricity that it's a bit mind boggling. For really basic picture book introductions at that age... The Shocking Truth About Energy by Loreen Leedy (covers energy more than electricity, but still a good starter) Switch On, Switch Off by Melvin Berger The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degan Flick a Switch by Barbara Seuling For exploring electrical projects, my favorite by far is Power Up by Sandra Markle. It's older, but really, really good. Also, I'm a huge fan of the Boston Children's Museum Activity Books and they have one called Buzzers and Blinkers. For a really simple beginning there's The Science Book of Electricity. There's also a Janice Van Cleave one about electricity. Snap Circuits is, indeed, the best. There are longer books too - especially about inventions and inventors that you can get into. By the way, I have a post about electricity which includes some of the stuff we did here and another one here.
Shifra
I was also going to suggest Switch On, Switch Off, which I bought from www.michaelolaf.com. They also sell an Electric Circuit Set.
