meme
Hi I am looking around for a grade 2 curriculum- basically just reading and comprehension type thing. I was looking at Houghton Mifflin Reading or Scott Foresman Reading but still not sure. Can anyone suggest something else please or their experience with the above two mentioned? Thanks

calledtobehome
Have you looked at Sonlight?
WiseOwlKnits
We were doing a formal reading program (CLE Reading), but ended up tossing it out the window. Now I just give her real books to read and we talk about them. It's working out much better for us.
Sahamamama
This might not be what you're looking for, but we plan to use the Memoria Press Literature Guides for Second Grade. The Courage of Sarah Noble Little House in the Big Woods Mr. Popper's Penguins Tales from Beatrix Potter Teacher Guide We have used Story Time Treasures and More Story Time Treasures this year for 1st Grade and are pleased with this program. Mommy22alyns
You might check out the Sonlight reader packages. The guides only cost about $5 or so.
momteaches2
Does the Sonlight schedule include the read-alouds, too? Or is it just for the readers?
timetoteach
our core language arts curriculum is FLL, WWE, and possibly MCT in the spring, but this summer I wanted something more crafty and focused on entire books as opposed to excerpts like in WWE. I purchased Veritas press primers "More favorites" and "milly Molly Mandy" and thus far would recommend.
momteaches2
My dd and I did Milly-Molly-Mandy from VP this year, and it was a favorite here!!
Mission-Driven-Mom
I was going to use Sonlight's guide (and may still here and there to change things up a bit...) but my son insisted on using Abeka's reading program which he used in second grade while in school and he thoroughly enjoyed and made great strides in his reading progress. I appreciate the lesson plan to keep me focused, the comprehensive nature of the reading program (fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, etc), and that I can trust the content to be safe and leveled. I was able to get most all at very reasonable prices on Ebay.
