Gamom3
We planted some strawberries about 2 wks ago and they are growing and producing..BUT, the strawberries are soft on the bottom. My mom thinks I should put some straw under the plant...Do I?
Jean in Newcastle
I often see straw under strawberry plants. I've found that if the strawberries touch the ground (soil) that they tend to get soft and will often rot quickly. Probably because they soak up moisture from the ground. My grandparents always put pine straw under their strawberry plants. My mom grew her strawberries in those strawberry planters. I agree, you don't want the berries touching the ground. 5webblets
Our strawberry farm always has straw under the plants and they are nice berries... and by "our" I mean the one we frequent, not own! Lindsay
