Are dual-enroll students eligible for Bright Futures?

Recommended Posts

I know a senior who is receiving a Bright Futures Medallion Scholars Award, and he has enough dual enrollment credits to receive his AA. Based on my second-hand information, I would say yes on eligibility.

Hopefully, someone with personal experience will chime in about standardized test scores. :bigear:

So long as the student has been home educating (registered with the county and not an umbrella school) for the 11th and 12th grades, dual-enrollment should not affect Bright Futures. Actually, even if the student is dual-enrolled through a private or public school, s/he should be eligible for BF, just not per the home education status.

If the student is applying for BF as a home educated student, only SAT/ACT scores can be used, not placement scores used by a community college.

ETA: Here is a link to the Bright Futures site. There is a lady who coordinates all home education students and she was very helpful when ds1 applied.

We're in FL and my son was homeschool dual-enrolled from 10th (now graduated and in 3rd year college) and he has a Florida Academic Scholar Bright Futures scholarship. He got his award based on his ACT score. He had to also put in a min. of 75 hours volunteer work to qualify.

So...

Although it states at BF website that a CPT plus gpa of 3.0 qualifies for Gold Seal, homeschoolers must have the ACT rather than CPT? Right?
