warriormom
Ok, I am super excited that we FINALLY finished Teach Your Child to read in 100 easy lessons. After reading some books, I am thinking about using funnix, but it seems slow moving. What do you think about it? How have the kids responded? Any other suggestions for a good next step to move toward fluency in reading? We WILL be reading everything in site BUT I like curriculum and opportunities to teach him something new in a systematic way. FYI, Inexpensive is a must! PR and AAS are a little too expensive for me. :bigear:
blondeviolin
My oldest is just finishing up Funnix Beginning Reading...you may be asking about Funnix 2, but I'll respond anyway. The way the program is designed is that only 10% of the lesson is new material. Abby has 10 lessons left of BR and then we'll take a month or two break with just readers and then move on to 2. To be honest, it has served her well. There are a few rules left to cover, but I really like that it has taught her digraphs well. I also like having the workbook/stories because it does address comprehension. She likes the stories in Funnix better than the stories in 100EL. I would bet you could just stick with readers at or slightly-above his level and he would be just fine, though. Once they decide they actually CAN read, then there is no stopping it. :D
happyhappyjoyjoy
Since funnix is so inexpensive right now I'd get funnix 2. My DS1 didn't have anything after 100EL for 2 years. He just read and read. AAS has continued to improve his reading even more. DS2 is on 36 in funnix beginning reading and I love it. He does, too.
