Hi,

We are doing AP right now, so she has not taken the test, but I ordered 4 of these from Paperbackswap, and chose the one bellow after looking at them. It seemed the best of the lot. I taught government at the college level as a grad. student, and all of them have what I would call a liberal slant.

Thank you both. Anissa, is there a more conservative text that you like better?

I was looking at the Hippocampus site for their online stuff and those were the texts they recommend that go along with their online lessons. I feel sure other books would also work, however (even if I have to line up the topics, myself)....

If there is a conservative college government text, I have never seen it, but I can't claim to have made an extensive survey. I just wanted to warn you so you could warn your dc. My dd finds some of the bias funny, so it makes for good discussion.

If I remember correctly texts by Lowi and Ginsberg seem to be more on the liberal side, so I avoided those. The one we are using seems a bit more moderate.

Regena,

I actually chose the Wilson text because it usually gets cited as the conversative one among the lot. I found it pretty even-handed and not overly leaning one way or another. IIRC, both authors worked in conservative administrations.

The text is, of course, just part of the class. Much of the class will probably be driven by your discussion, by primary documents and by current events. I plan to teach it again next year and will use Wilson, Dilulio again.

HTH,

Lisa
