Black History Month

There were 2 threads so far on this topic this month. Sorry but my memory loss issues are kicking in badly tonight and I can't remember much of what we have been discussing.

For myself I have been doing some reading in a textbook on popular music in America and how amazing it is that a minority group has been THE influence, not just ONE of the influences on modern popular music in America.

I find it important not to dwell on only the bad, and the overtalked about heroes, and focus on modern movers and shakers who just happen to be black, and black culture.

Would you like to focus on African myths and folk tales? They should be easy to find online. How about some music?

Jessie Owens in the olympics in Germany is an interesting topic, but might be a bit above a 6 year old.

African, West Indian and Southern cooking would be fun. The American Girl books have a character named Addy I think, with a cookbook.

Scholastic's $1.00 sale has a February book that has a unit on Black History Month.
