Catherine
Any thoughts on this? My 14 yo is finishing eighth grade and wants to do this. Short of some extremely expensive camps that are directed to older students, or living in a spanish-speaking place for the summer, I'm not sure what is out there. TIA! jelbe5
Here is a link to an excellent (but expensive) program http://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/newsite/ Our park district offers "conversational" classes that are inexpensive and short term. Perhaps that might be an option where you live? What about programs at a community college?
PeterPan
magazines books movies with subtitles in english make friends with people who speak the target language attend church services in the target language get music in the target language audio books in the target language memorize dialogues and recite them I've done summer immersion programs, and these are the types of things you do, in addition to classes. There's no reason you can't do these things on your own.
Ana
send him down here to Mexico! We'll teach him Spanish. LOL!!! Amazing how fast you learn when you live here.
BamaTanya
but when I was in college, a group of the students volunteered to work at day camps for the children of immigrant workers . . . I think it was through Catholic Social Services. This was many years ago, but I'm sure there are volunteer organizations that have opportunities with Spanish-speaking people.
