LaurainKs
I have a senior and sophomore both doing economics this semester. My question is: are there any quality board games that teach economics? My dd (the sophomore) would greatly benefit from something hands-on. I'm not looking for something that teaches about the stock market, but rather that would reinforce the basic terms and concepts in a more fun, real-world way. Any help is appreciated! Ravin
How about The Farming Game? Though I've only ever played the 1979 edition. You go around the calendar, as a "weekend" farmer you try and plant the right crops to make a profit and be able to go to farming full time. Cards for everything from vagaries of weather to banking problems complicate things, but there can also be strokes of good luck. You might lose crops/miss harvests depending on your dice rolls. There's also The Game of Life. A quick internet search found this page, which looks promising: http://www.gamequarium.com/economics.html Also this site links to a bunch of others: http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/subjects/economicsgames.htm
mcconnellboys
I was thinking "Life" and this article seems to confirm that (as well as giving several others): http://www.brighthub.com/video-games/family/articles/84486.aspx
Miss Marple
What about the CashFlow games? I haven't played them, but I have a nephew who is in a group that plays regularly.
