ProudGrandma
I want to get a few books for each of my kids for Christmas, but I am stumped for my 6 year old because I can't decide if I should go with early reader books although he can't read them yet, or just some cool picture books with great pictures. Any thoughts or suggestions? For what it is worth, he is reading the AAS readers level one and the 3 set of I See Sam books (both are strictly short vowels sounds). thescrappyhomeschooler
I would get him a couple cool picture books and a couple readers that he can work toward reading all by himself. ETA: I second Henry and Mudge. My boys also liked Nate the Great books, Jeffrey Bones books, Lionel in the Summer (and other Lionel books) and Gus and Grandpa books. Lizzie in Ma
Loved them. You can read them to him for now but it won't be long.
LibraryLover
Love Henry & Mudge. I also love an opportunity to recommend the sweet Fairmont Ave series by Tomie DePaola: www.amazon.com/26-Fairmount-Avenue-Tomie-dePaola/dp/039923246X
Momling
For a 6 yr old boy who is not yet reading fluently, but probably will be soon, I'd go with these: Elephant and Piggie Fly Guy Frog and Toad
