Marla
Does anyone skip the penmanship, spelling portion of CLE LA? If so, why? My dd completed CLE 500 and we are now in CLE 600. I decided to do something different for spelling so we're skipping CLE's spelling. DD, who complained about CLE previously, seems more tolerant of it without the spelling component probably because she can complete lesson more quickly now. Does CLE 700+ still include spelling? Blossom'sGirl
This is our first year with CLE LA, and my 7th grader is doing the 700 level. There is both spelling and copywork and I have him do it all. It does take him awhile. The spelling lists are usually categorized in some way. One week it was all Bible names. He also has had cooking terms, homonyms, and this week it is ie/ei words. He has been all the way through SWR so he knows the rules and phonograms but still cannot spell so I've decided he is going to have to just memorize them. I switched to CLE because it is independent and I have three younger boys I need to work with.
mom31257
The 8th grade LA has 3 lists of 20 words each per book. That's 600 words per year. They have not been covering rules, but more groups of words. I have dd do the activities, but I'm not testing her over them. I started doing it, but she was getting them all right. I know, though, that she has learned some new vocabulary words just by doing the exercises. I'm all for keeping things simple. If you are comfortable with the words, I would keep using CLE. You've already paid for it, and she likes it. Sounds like a win-win to me.
