Diane in CO
Does anyone have a great stew recipe? I have tried about 4 different recipes and can't seem to find anything that is really spectacular. If you have one that your family loves, could you share the recipe :bigear: Thanks! oldskool
We love this recipe. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Beef-Barley-Vegetable-Soup/Detail.aspx It is called a soup, but really turns out like stew. Lesley

Perry
Here's mine. This is one of dh's favorite meals. Cut ~1 1/2 pounds of stew meat into 1 inch chunks. Dredge in 1/2 c. flour. Brown in vegetable oil (in small batches) over medium high heat, along with an onion cut into chunks. Remove to crockpot when browned. Deglaze the pan with 8 ounces of red wine, scraping up browned bits, heat to thicken, and add to the crock pot. Add chunks of rutabaga, turnip, parsnips, potatoes and carrots. Sprinkle another 1/2 c. of flour over all and mix up with a large spoon. Add 1 Tb garlic, pinch of thyme, cube of Knorr vegetable bouillon, and salt and pepper. Add 1 C. water and a bay leaf. Cover and cook in the crock pot on high for 6-8 hours. Even better the second day, if there are any leftovers.
Annie Laurie
I like this one: http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/classic-beef-stew-10000001122826/index.html Though I use grassfed stew beef, not the round. And I don't measure, I just add what I want, which usually includes more wine and broth. I find that a stew recipe with some kind of tomato base and red wine makes it very flavorful.
