Lost Tools users: anyone interested in getting together to talk about it?

Thank you again for the posters who are also struggling with Lost Tools of Writing and the posters who have figured it out and are using it successfully. Both conversations helped my head tremendously. :)

Togo made a suggestion to me that makes a lot of sense and I hope she doesn't mind me expanding the idea a bit here.

My husband and I have a conference call account for business and I was wondering if the successful users and us struggling users might could arrange a time to hang out on a conference call line with our materials to discuss ideas, uses and suggestions. The conference call line is completely private, so there shouldn't be any safety issues. Only owners of the curriculum should be the ones discussing but I was thinking those interested in using it might could listen in.

What do you think about it? Discussing it in PM's and forum message boards can't convey the details and real conversation about it. I'll organize the time if you would PM me your interest and some ideas on what kind of days and times might be good.

We'd really need a few strugglers and a few successes to really get what I have in mind about it. We'll all be sure to have our curriculum in front of us to work with.

Ideas? Interest? Suggestions?

I'm willing, and I think it's a good idea, but I think it would be best to have a focus for the call. Also, since everyone will be coming to the table from a different place; i.e. organizing to teaching the comparison essay or advanced elocution, mothers may need more than one call. It might be best to start with a call that focuses on organizing the materials since that seems to be a problem for many mothers. Then, the calls could focus on discussion of each lesson. I believe that most mothers will be able to get LTW off the ground after they work through the first two or three lessons. At that point, they will understand it enough to use the apprenctice yahoo group for questions or maybe someone will be motivated to start an LTW yahoo group.

Even if we only have 3 or 4 mothers who want to do this, I think it's a good idea. Whatever we answer or pull together can be posted for other mothers. Andrew has posted they can only make it so easy, which means they can make it easier to use, but working through the process of an LTW essay is challenging. For example, dd wrote several essays without any problems, but struggled with an essay on The Wind in the Willows until she realized the problem stemmed from the issue she had chosen.

I agree with Togo as well on many things. I believe a plan of action for the call is a great idea. Someone successfully using the curriculum would probably be best suited to decide what would be most beneficial first, second and, possibly, so on. I also agree that if I could just see how to go all the way through a complete lesson several times, then I could get the rhythm of what I'm looking for. Yet again I agree that this would be great to do no matter how many participate. I think I'll give this the weekend to get around, post it on the high school board and then we can decide on a day and time

Who knows? What if this turns into something we do with other curriculum on occasions for and with others?

Sounds great! I am sure there are mothers more experienced than I am, but I vote for organization as the first call. There are mothers who are using the teacher notebook arranged by canon, but I could not understand the teaching sequence and understand what I needed to use and when to use it until I organized my notebook by lesson. However, if someone has another idea for the first call though, I am up for anything. Also, organization might not take too long, so perhaps everyone can have a list of questions to either be answered or discussed during the next telephone call.
