Art of Argument Quiz Discrepancy

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed the errors in the second quiz? It says it covers materials up to chapter 3.6, but it actually goes up to at least 4.7. Anyone else notice this? Does this keep happening? If so, do you have a quick list? I spent a while trying to figure it out yesterday and then my son told me I missed one. I am so frustrated!

We only made it through 1/2 of AoA back in 7th grade. I did a major clean-out after 8th grade, so I don't have my old book. But, yes, this happened regularly. I found the best way to figure it out was to look at the answers for the quiz and determine if the fallacies in the answers were in the sections that the quiz was supposed to be covering.

Do you have the 2010 version? I would hope that they corrected that. I know I contacted CAP about it 2 years ago. Oh, I just found the email response:

Here are some of the new corrections to the chart on page 4. The changes are highlighted in yellow. <I changed it to bold>

1. Quiz (Ad Fontem arguments) page 26 (in TM): up to an including lesson 3.7

2. Cumulative Fallacy Quiz page 27: up to an including lesson 4.7

3. Cumulative Fallacy Quiz II page 30: up to lesson 4.11

4. Red Herrings Logic Quiz page 33: lessons 5.1 to 5.6 (Red Herrings)

5. Cumulative Logic Quiz page 35: All of Unit I (lessons 2.1 to 5.6)

6. Logic Quarterfinal I page 37: All of Unit I

7. Cumulative Fallacy Quiz IV page 41: All of Unit I

8. Fallacies of Induction Quiz page 44: lessons 7.1 to 7.6, (fallacies of presupposition, with some review of earlier fallacies from Unit I)

9. Cumulative Fallacy Quiz V page 47: lessons 6.1 to 7.6 (fallacies of presupposition and induction)

10. Cumulative Fallacy Quiz VI page 51: lessons 6.1 to 8.6 (Unit II)

11. Logic Quarterfinal II page 53: lessons 6.1 to 8.6 (Unit II)

We also make corrections to the quiz headers themselves on pages 26, 27 and 44.

Thanks for your helpful feedback.

Pax,

Chris

HTH! I don't remember it being perfectly accurate, though.
