Mommy22alyns
I picked out the HWT My Printing Book for Rebecca and started her working on that, but in looking at other books like SWO and ETC, I'm seeing a more Zaner-Bloser approach. Rebecca's having a little difficulty "filling the lines" when she uses that paper/font. Should I abandon HWT? What would be the benefit of using HWT when the print in so many other books isn't like that?
neesek
I love HWT. I have taught two children to write with it, and I love, love, love their methods. It has definitely worked for us. With that being said, I have had the same issues with the type of paper. I have dealt with it in two ways. With my ds, after he had learned all of the letters on the HWT paper, then I had him learn to do it on the three lined paper. I would do it like the workbooks - write the letter leave a space, write it again, leave a space, basically a model for each letter. With my dd, I did it slightly differently. I did it on a letter by letter basis. First we would learn the letter in the HWT book, then she would practice it more on 3 lined paper. Either way, my kids have done fine. Most of the workbooks out there use 3 lines, so it really makes sense to know how to use it, but on the other hand, I do not want to abandon HWT's methods. claussenpc
Just wanted to say that I have done it the same way as Denise and my dc have been fine. No big confusion.
Mostlyamom
I also really LOVE the way HWT teaches writing so much more than Zaner-Bloser. One of the things I have done it just purchased a package of the HWT paper to use for writing projects. Pretty soon it won't matter to the kids, once they are more solid with how to form the letters. You can purchase 100 sheets of the wide line paper for $3.50 at Rainbow Resource, for example, and I'm sure it is available other places.
