Would you call the police?

Jean,

 

Is this a sliding glass patio door? We always cut a 1" dowel to size and place it in the track so that no one can break the latch and open the door (IOW the door cannot slide backwards because the dowel is in the way)--they'd have to break the glass to get in. We considered it part of the door lock and never left home without it in place.

 

It wouldn't cost much to get one if this is the type of door I am thinking it is.

I asked my dh to come and do this last night. It was when he was there measuring for the dowel that he discovered that they had something even better - a metal track lock that screws into the metal to prevent the door being opened. It was not being used but we set it up so that it is now.

The police officer thinks my 8 year old did it.

 

Sounds like a dumba** situation in my last neighborhood involving my (then age 6) daughter and a busybody who took pictures of her with some other kids for no other reason than "suspicious activity". The busybody wasn't charged with anything even though she was sharing photos of my child with the neighbors. Nothing had been damaged but the parents of the children were asked to let the police interview the kids. They made it sound like our children were in trouble and the only creepy thing that happened was this woman taking pictures out of her bedroom window into the yard of another house!!!! I flat out refused and then we put our house up for sale. Darned if I was going to live in that neighborhood. The neighbor was nuts and the police weren't protective in the least.
