mindygz
I have gotten dd8 motivated (for an incentive) to work harder at improving her math study habits, but she gets really distracted doing the same types of problems over and over. I feel like she does need the mastery approach, though, as she doesn't always get the math concepts right away. I'm just wondering if there is a way to mix it up a bit for her to make it a little easier to digest. She is in Beta, and we are on Chapter 18 (3 digit column addition). Any good ways to review the material without just doing more pages? Supplemental materials? Anything? Thanks!
meet me in paris
We're just past that unit in Beta... You could do some stuff with money - that always works well with column addition & subtraction. Have her go through catalogs and add up the cost of what she likes, or use coins and dollars instead of blocks... stuff like that. Most girls like shopping! :)
mindygz
That's a great idea! Thank you!
robsiew
This is one reason we switched from MUS to MM. More variety. You may want to take a look at Math Mammoth. Her Blue Series materials are easy to use as supplements. The exercises are varied and the word problems are more than just plugging in the two numbers in the problem. Also, this site has some fun math games on it... http://hoodamath.com/games/ Another idea would be to look at MEP. It's free online. You may be able to find some things to throw in. Leonana
I like the Living Math website. My dd loves living math books, and they help to cement the concepts. There is also suggestions for games. www.livingmath.net
