MistyJ
Help. For two days ds, 14, bipolar, has been cycling...silly laughter, outrageousness, distractibilily, depressed talk. I try to remember this is why we homeschool, but I am feeling so frustrated. What do you do to help a child in this situation get something done? During an outlining lesson, he was so obnoxious I locked him out back to rake leaves while I finished with dd. (Sunshine and exercise RX). Just now I set a timer for 5 minutes, asking him to finish a math page in the time. I've sent him to the tramoline to jump 100 times. Help. elise1mds
More :grouphug: I don't know that there's a whole lot you CAN do, is there, other than what you're already doing? If sensory-seeking activities like the trampoline help, I say go for it. Do as much orally as possible. Ask him to spell everything you have to write so that at least you know he's getting there even if he's bouncing on the trampoline while he's doing it. I don't know if that'll do any good or not, but that's about the only suggestion I have. Frustrating as all get-out. I'm sorry :( Even more :grouphug:
Ottakee
My first thought is to call the pdoc and see about tweaking a med. You don't want the cycling to get worse and it is easier to nip it in the bud than the try to fight a full blown manic episode.
