Blessed with seven
Hi, I have heard a lot of GREAT things about AAS. Is this program confusing for a child just learning to read? Should you wait until they are reading easily before starting? Thanks! Mama Lynx
I used it up until about Step 13 of the first book. At that point, it was going to start getting confusing unless they were better at reading. So at that point, we dropped it to just focus on phonics. We use Phonics Pathways. My plan is that when we get halfway through PP, we'll pick up AAS again. I really liked using the first steps of AAS as beginning reading reinforcement. ELaurie
IMO, it also depends on your dc. I have one who is quite capable of learning to read, write and spell simultaneously. I also have a struggling learner for whom it was best to introduce these skills sequentially, primarily because handwriting was very difficult for him. He wasn't ready to learn to spell until he could form his letters correctly, but he was ready to begin reading. When I did introduce spelling, a year later, what he learned using AAS reinforced the phonics rules he already knew. HTH
Blessed with seven
I am also using Phonics Pathways and am not halfway done yet. Does AAS start out w/ simple CVC words? Mama Lynx
AAS starts out with phonograms, and then moves to simple CVC words.
claussenpc
I am using AAS, Phonics Pathways and Adventures in Phonics with my 6.5 ds. It is working very well. We do not do AAs everyday- we incorporate where appropriate.
Josie
I think it is just another avenue for them to start figuring things out.
