NCJessieRN
Have any of you heard of this? My eyes were open on Monday night when I went to hear a speaker named Christine Caine! She opened my eyes to the REALITY of HUMAN TRAFFICKING! Here are a few of the horrific stats: *Trafficking in women is the second largest global organized crime today, generating approximately US$12 billion a year.[2] *There are 1.39 million victims of commercial sexual servitude worldwide.[3] Over 25 percent of sex trafficked victims are trafficked from Southern and Eastern Europe.[4] *90% of victims trafficked into EU member states end up in the sex industry.[5] *There is an estimated 20,000 women and girls trafficked into the Greek sex industry, earning Greece the title: "the center of trafficking in Europe."[6] *One study reveals that one in every 10 Ukrainian persons knows someone in their community who has been trafficked.[7] *Tragically, only 1-2 percent of victims are rescued, and only 1 in 100,000 Europeans involved in trafficking are convicted.[8] I can not believe how ignorant I was! We can't do everything but we can do SOMETHING! http://www.theA21campaign.com
hornblower
I used to work for Immigration so yes, I'm aware of this. We intercepted several groups of women who were coming in to work in brothels. They *thought* they were going to be nannies or servants. They knew that they were not quite legit - because the nannies who come through the agencies have to have certain qualifications & these girls tended to not have much education. What they did not know was that they were going to have their passport taken away, get locked in a suite in a high rise apartment & put to another kind of 'work'. The women we saw were mostly from Thailand & the Philippines. The east coast saw more from Ukraine & Russia.
