Silly Transcript Question

Recommended Posts

Okay, this is silly, but I can't wrap my brain with a headache around how to figure this out! :001_huh::blush:

If my dd has 6.5 credits, how do I calculate the 1/2 credit into the gpa? FWIW, she got an A (4.0) in the 1/2 credit class.

Thank you for your help! :001_smile:

Just put ".5" into the calculator....I tested it and it does work.

GPA is total credits times whatever grading scale you use divided by the number of courses. SO if you use 1/2 credit times your numerical grade it will figure into the total correctly. But maybe you are using a weighted scale or one different than the calculator? If not, that 'A' for 1/2 credit is 2 points where and 'A' for a one credit course would be 4 points.

Or am I missing your point?

No, I don't use a weighted scale, so no you're not missing my point. It just came out weird when I tried to add it on my own (I 1/2'd it to 2.0, but then it seemed to lower the gpa more than it should've). Maybe I stuck a wrong nimber in somewhere? I dunno! ;)

Thank you for your time, I'll try it that way and see how it does. I did put the 1/2 credit on the calculator and it gave me a gpa, I just had a mental block of how to do it without the calc.

Thank you!!!

A very simple way is to just list the courses - double the GPA for the courses that are a full credit and leave the 1/2 credit value alone. Add them and divide by 2x the number of full credit courses (6 x 2 = 12) and add the number of 1/2 credit courses (1). So you would be dividing the sum by 13 in your case. HTH :)

A=4 points for each credit

B=3 points

C=2 points

D=1 point

F=0

So if you have 6.5 credits ... let's pretend:

3.5 of those credits were A's

2 were B's

1 was a C

So

3.5 A's X 4 points= 14

2 B's X 3 points= 6

1 C x2 points=2

Then add them up:

14+6+2=22 points

Now divide that by the number of credits:

22/6.5=3.38

The grade point is 3.38
