It might have been a very flattering offer. For ex, since dh & I write music together, one might assume I could like...carry a note in a tin bucket. Otoh, it might have been a non-speaking role for a hermit the shape of someone who's had four children & prefers writing to exercising & likes to live alone in a cave & scare passers-by.
