Apologia General Science - need supply kits?

Planning on Apologia General Science:

Sonlight sells a kit of supplies for General Science, specifically, AND a kit of supplies regardless of which class you are ordering.

 

Apologia catalogue states that household items suffice.

 

Any suggestions / experiences out there?

I found most of the neccessary supplies around the house or easy to find at the grocery store or pharmacy. Perhaps the kits may be helpful in the higher level science courses.
