Mystery books for 11/12 yo?

Recommended Posts

now I don't see it.

Anyway, Hardy Boys/Nancy Drews have been "updated for each generation," which means the older ones are "better" than the newer ones. They are longer, have a higher reaing level, larger vocabulary and don't call people "Dude." Anything paperback or with a shiny yellow/blue cover ARE for 9 - 10 year olds. The older ones (dark blue/brown cover without a picture on it) were written for older (12-13) year olds and are a reasonably fun (if short) read for ME! If your 11-12 year old dc hasn't read them I recommend the old ones.

Our progressions of mystery books went:

Magic Tree House (10)

Encyclopedia Brown (10)

Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys(10-11)

Famous Five series by Enid Blyton (10-11) (Great series but hard to find. The library had some but I've never seen them in a "new" bookstore, only second hand.)

Sherlock Holmes (around 11/12)

And I just gave ds (16) Father Brown

Any ideas for in between Sherlock Holmes and Father Brown wuold be appreciated.:001_smile:
