hornblower
How do calcium and magnesium work together? I'm 43 & I think I should start taking calcium for my bones. For years now I occasionally take pure magnesium because it helps prevent my kidney stones. The kind I take is 252mg elemental magnesium from 435mg magnesium oxide I used to take 1-2/day but now I only take it occasionally when my kidney starts complaining. But from reading other threads (the chocolate thread & previous threads), I'm thinking I should maybe start taking it regularly for other reasons as well. I see a lot of supplements are Cal-Mag together. Those of you who also use magnesium for depression or tension or fibromyalgia etc - does taking it with calcium work? Or does it have to be taken on its own? I'm too wooly headed right now to research it & I was hoping someone knows the answer. :)
Mejane
My daughter's orthopedist told us that calcium should always be taken with magnesium or the calcium can build up causing calcifications or kidney stones. Vitmain D helps with absorption as well. We both take a cal-mag with D supplement - 1200mg calcium with 400mg magnesium and 800iu D. Ours is from Schiff. hth.
