Quiver0f10
I was thinking of trying this recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Kays-Spaghetti-and-Lasagna-Sauce/Detail.aspx and was wondering if whole peeled tomatoes would work as well as stewed? Thanks!
milovany
Definitely. Cut them up a bit ahead of time maybe. I regularly substitute all varieties of canned tomatoes for other varieties. I don't really pay that much attention to whether they are "diced," "stewed," "crushed" or whatever.
cjzimmer1
Stewed tomatoes usually have a couple of extra vegetable and seasonings (including celery seed) in them. My mom makes a lot of them but I don't like the flavor of them so I substitute regular tomatoes all the time. But if the sauce seems like it's lacking at the end, you could look up a stewed tomato recipe and add some of those seasonings to the sauce but I doubt you will need to do that.
