christine in al
Some reviews say that the TOC doesn't correspond to the contents, and that " this was a rushed printing job with no illustrations" , but Amazon clumps the reviews for all editions together so which is which? My History Odessey guide suggests 1999, but there is a 2008 edition. Any folks out there who have an edition they love? Thanks. ~Christine in AL
asta
Do NOT get the one from Amazon. It is a Xerox of the one you can get for free from Gutenberg, and it doesn't have the illustrations. You want the one that is copyright 1984 or earlier. Mine is Liveright Publishing Corporation, ISBN 0-87140-647-0. I got it off of Alibris. a

christine in al
I even had this book years ago, but gave it away when I could no longer tolerate the exclusive language. I had fantasies that the 2009 edition included the rest of us in it's language. I'll get one of the older ones, and just talk again about outdated language. Thanks again. ~c. in AL
abbeyej
http://www.amazon.com/Story-Mankind-John-Merriman/dp/0871401754 This one. Ds is currently using it with History Odyssey, it's inexpensive and a decent edition. I appreciate the edits that have dealt with some regrettable wordings in past editions. The only weirdness we've found is a reference to an illustration that was, in fact, not there. ;)
