Jennifer Posted December 1, 2009 Share Posted December 1, 2009 I've been using a Neti Pot for a few weeks now and it has really helped with congestion. I have a huge cold right now and just one nostril is stuffed up. I'm still rinsing but here's the (gross) question-The solution is going in but nothing is coming out of the stuffed up nostril. hornblower Posted December 1, 2009 Share Posted December 1, 2009 Probably up your sinuses &/or the back of your throat. Are you sure it's going in & not dripping back down into the sink? I don't know that I'd keep on pouring into the open nostril if you can't get the plugged nostril to start leaking a bit. I'd blow a bit & maybe try putting solution into the plugged nostril to see if you can loosen things up a bit from this end - it will at first feel like you're making no progress and it's all coming out into the sink but IME it will often get things moving so that you can do a real flush. When one of my nostrils is completely blocked, I cannot use the neti pot (it also says not to on the box). Usually, if I try it, it will start going down the back of my throat though.
