mrsrevmeg
I unplugged my chest freezer to defrost/clean it. What I did not realize is there was a chocolate popsicle and an ear of corn in the bottom. Now there is a gooey mess that I can't reach. Is it okay to turn it on its side? Just long enough to scrub it out?
praisefor3
Probably. But instead I would drop a sponge and use a pole, pipe, broom handle, etc. to scrub it and get it clean and wedge up the trash. I would find that easier than tipping my deep freezer - but it's a big one.
The Girls' Mom
If you do tip it, just let it sit for an hour or so after you turn it upright before you plug it back up. That lets anything in the freezers system go back to where it needs to be. (Says my dh)
Melissa in FL
I would say no. I was told when we bought our upright never to turn it on it's side (like when you move). If you do it may never freeze the same. When we moved across the country I made sure my freezer wasn't tipped very much and it still works fine. I would use a mop to clean the bottom of it. Actually, to be truthful, I would use a mop for the worst of it. Then I would lift a small child with a rag to climb in and clean the rest of it. The small child I have in mind would love the adventure! Melissa
mrsrevmeg
Thanks for the replies! I knew that you were not supposed to tip fridges, but I was hoping it might be different on freezers. I really like the small child idea. I have one that would see that as being cool! He has wanted to climb in the freezer before.
MaryCatherine
Seconding the kid idea. I'd toss my youngest in there in a snap. He owes me a few clean-ups anyway!
Perry
I knew that you were not supposed to tip fridges I didn't know that. Oops.
