How do I mail a letter overseas?

Recommended Posts

No, you don't have to take it for special postage, but you do need to make sure you have enough postage on it.

At the post office, you can buy international stamps (so you don't have to cobble together postage using multiple stamps). This is what we do as many of dh's relatives live in Europe.

We have a relative in France, and I just go the post office every now & then and buy a handful of the special stamp (72 cents I think). As long as it's just a regular-size envelope that's enough. When the rest of the postage changes, that one usually does too, so I always ask if there are any rate increases coming up. You can use a few regular stamps instead, but that won't get you the exact rate.

It has gone up! We were just at the post office to mail a letter overseas and the new rate is 98 cents, as long as it is within the standard weight/size regulations.
