If you're using SOTW, you could do a fast overview by doing a chapter a day/4x week for 10 weeks (and 2 extra days...there are 42 chapters.) If using something else (like the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, for example), you could decide how many topics you'd like your dc to cover, and have them select that number of page spreads from that time period in the encyclopedia.
