My original pair that I have worn exclusively for about 3 winters, is the soft foot bed and the new one is the original harder foot bed. I prefer the soft and am having a hard time getting used to the new pair. I ONLY wear birks year round and have 6-7 pairs. After 2 days I couldn't tell the difference. The only difference was I didn't need two days to feel like they were "broken in". So, if you are fearful, it really isn't a big deal.
